Overview of Prostatectomy

Of all the options available, radical prostatectomy, which means removing the entire prostate and both seminal vesicles, offers patients with prostate cancer the maximum chance of being cured of their disease. However, this does not mean it is the best treatment. Unfortunately, surgery has not been compared to any options other than watchful waiting so men must understand both the risks and benefits before deciding what to do.

There are four methods for removing the prostate and there is a video for each of them. Is one approach better than another? What about complications, is one procedure more favorable than the others? Videos are available for each of the following methods.
RETROPUBIC PROSTATECTOMY
PERINEAL PROSTATECTOMY
LAPAROSCOPIC PROSTATECTOMY
ROBOT ASSISTED LAPAROSCOPIC PROSTATECTOMY
